How to get online:
To use your computer on WSU's network you must first have sponsor backing. Secondly, your computer must meet all of WSU's technical requirements, which are listed below. Once your sponsor has approved your presence on the network, you will have the option of using wired or wireless ethernet.

Requirements:
  • 10/100 wired ethernet, or 802.11b wireless ethernet card.
  • An operating system with all updates and patches installed.1
  • Antivirus software with current virus definitions.2
  • A category-5 ethernet cable, if you plan to use wired ethernet. A cable will not be provided for you.
Sponsor:
Bob Tattershall, the Director of Housing and Conference Services, will act as the network sponsor for guests of WSU on ResNet. Your Conference or Camp director will need to contact him directly regarding this request (509-335-7732 or tattersh@wsu.edu). Once he has been contacted and this request has been submitted and approved, you will be able to use your computer on WSU's network.

Location:
All residence hall rooms are equipped with wired ethernet connections. WSU's wireless network is available in most, but not all, areas. Wireless coverage varies across campus.

After your Conference or Camp Director has contacted Bob Tattershall, click on the appropriate link for either wireless or wired access, and follow the directions on that page

1. To accomplish this in a Windows operating system, open Internet Explorer and choose "Windows Update" from the tools menu. On a Macintosh OSX operating system, choose "Software Update" from the Apple menu. Install all available updates.

2. WSU cannot provide you with antivirus software. You will need to come to campus equipped with your own copy. Please make sure it is running the most current virus definitions available.
